Notes - Had a tough time falling asleep last night. But once I slept, I think I may have actually slept all night! I did sleep in the recliner. I don't remember waking during the night. But I didn't fall asleep til after 12am.

Trouble getting to sleep could be due to the large quantities of decaff green tea I consumed yesterday. There are a couple of studies that show that drinking 5-8cups of green tea per day is an anti-oxidant source of EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate) that is anti-cancer in nature. I don't know for sure, but I just make a very strong 2c measuring cup with 2 bags of decaff green tea and let it steep forever. Then dilute it with fresh water and a lime wedge. (Hey, you're in Texas baby! No lemon in this girl's tea!) Each glass is a weak tea/water concentration but if you drink enough of them...I'm sure even the nominal caffeine in each glass adds up! Gosh it was hot! I was poundin' this stuff like there was no tomorrow - so thirsty!

Or the trouble getting to sleep could be anticipation of today's doctor's visits. The port flush is no big deal. It will hopefully, be my last port flush. I have to have them every 4-6 weeks to keep a central line into my superior vena cava open and blood clot free. They withdraw blood from it, then flush it with saline and then add some kind of heparin or blood thinner to keep it free from clotting.

The port is placed under my skin in through my chest wall into the vein. You can see it as a big discolored lump just below my clavical. There is a lead that sorta goes up my neck and you can see that now too because of the weight loss. It's less than attractive, but it sure has done its job and kept me from having bad veins in my only arm that can be used for blood draws, ivs and blood pressure.

Since the mastectomy and left lymph node dissection, the left arm is off limits to any procedure. I can't even do blood sugar finger sticks from the left arm/hand anymore and no blood pressures either. If something happens to the right arm, the only thing left is for them to draw from my feet and ankles. VERY painful and not reccommended! Ha! Don't ask how I know this already!

So the port has been a God-send! I will actually kinda miss it when it's gone. Cuz then anytime they need blood, they will have to try for a cooperating vein - sometimes they don't cooperate. They will remove it during this next surgery in September.

Glad I won't be awake this time like I was when they placed it. I was in a cardiac lab where they place central lines and I was on a drug called phentanyl (good stuff, btw), but still conscious and my bp went way up from anxiety and discomfort. But this amazing nurse sat by my side through the whole procedure and held my hand and kept me distracted and laughing - cracking jokes the whole time. What an angel!!!

I'm gonna visit with my friend during her chemo today. I can't remember if I told you guys about her? Her name is M and she's fought Stage IV BC disease for 13 years. She's had bone and liver mets and fought them back. I can't remember if she's ever had lung mets before? But she called this week and told me that her liver mets had spread and she now has mets to her bones and lungs. So she's back on chemo. She's already had 3 full rounds of very intensely focused radiation. So I will sit with her for a bit today before the port flush and doctors visits.

I woke up to a new 10 year low - 224.6lbs. I briefly saw 224.8lbs a few weeks ago then immediately bounced back up in weight. I'm an inch-worm loser. I tick down, then bounce up, tick down, bounce up. It's a very spikey weightloss graph. Maybe this will be a new footprint? Since today is a meat-free DD, I'm hoping this loss will stick and it will continue to decrease tomorrow! At 224.4lbs I will have officially lost 90lbs! Woooohooooo!!!! Celebrate good times, come on! It's a celebration! It's taken over 10 years on this journey to be able to say that. So I won't say it - till it happens! *snort*

Ok, well better get on with my proverbial tater peelin'. I've already bored the crap outta all 2 of you reading here today! Have a good one you two!!! TGIF! MUAH!!!

Dinner Note - Successfully resisted a heaping pile of sweet potato fries and conventional hand cut French fries. Also resisted the delectable allure of a warm rice crispy treat and a huge slab of Red Velvet Cake. It should be noted, that although I was feeling ill by the time we left the restaurant, I left feeling morally superior to other dinners in the restaurant. *haha. j/k. i really didn't feel m.s. but it made for good reading!*

Quit JUDDD and low carb to prepare for surgery.

August 13, 2012 -

Resumed JUDDD schedule while continuing with the Circadian Rhythm Schedule for eating and sleeping windows.

July 23 - August 12 -

I'm starting an n=1 pseudo-experiment today. It's based on experiments with Calorie Restriction and Food Restriction or Food Windows. I'm working with some guidance on this. The idea will be to reset my Circadian Rhythms.New research shows that Circadian Rhythm disruption influences inflammation and obesity as well as insulin sensitivity. These are all areas I'm desperate to address because fixing these areas could allow my body to heal. This could give me a better shot at remaining cancer free.

For the next 3 weeks, I must reset the Circadian Clock inside my body. To reset the CC (Circadian Clock) I need to discontinue JUDDD over the next 3 weeks and simply adhere to a feeding, sleeping and waking schedule. I will be adding a note section at the end of each day in order to evaluate status and moods.

Step 1: Eat a low carb diet without calorie restriction for the next 3 weeks without any type of calorie rotation.

Step 2: Eat all meals within an 8 hour feeding window - 11am - 7pm. Absolutely no eating after 7pm. Non-caloric liquids are allowed on demand.

Step 3: Adhere to a bedtime with total darkness at 11pm and wake time of 6:30am, every day.

Step 4: After 3 weeks I will resume JUDDD Rotations with a 20% Calorie Restriction on Down Days - 500 kcals, Up Days will allow up to 2340 kcals. The JUDDD Rotation will feature low carb nutrition. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

Step 5: After 2 weeks back on JUDDD Rotations, evaluate the ongoing weight loss level I feel comfortable in sustaining for the long term. I can go as high as a 50% restriction and still experience activation of the SIRT1 genes and asthma alleviation. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

JUDDD Plan -

What in the Sam-hill, cockamamie food plan are you following? That can't be low carb!! Well, you're right it isn't simply low carb. I follow a derivation of the Johnson's Alternate Day Diet. I tweaked the JUDDD diet, as it's called, into a low carb version.

I choose to follow this plan right now, because I am experiencing dramatic improvement on asthma symptoms, blood sugar control and weight loss.

More importantly, I also experienced a greater than 50% response rate in neo-adjuvant chemotherapy towards a high grade prolific ER+/PR+/Her2Neu- breast cancer and lost 45lbs during treatment - when most people in breast cancer treatment gain 10-20lbs. (KI-67 was 22% with 17mitotic bodies).

Sure, I'm a turtle. Weight loss is slow weight loss. But it's weight loss! Hope that helps bring you up to speed!

The JUDDD diet has quite a bit of testing behind it and is founded upon theories that alternate day caloric restriction activates the longevity gene, the SIRT1 gene.

Suggested side effects of the JUDDD Diet are greater blood sugar control, reduction of systemic inflammation, relief or improvement of asthma conditions, reduction in movement disorder brain dysfunction, and possible anti-cancer effects.

But! Key to remember, I'm an n=1, not a doctor, not a nutritionist, nor allied health practitioner and you MUST do your own research. I'm just a girl who had cancer and is dancing with NED at this point in time.
