JUDDD Up Day (Goal 1500cals)

Weight - 238.8lbs (without bandages)
Mood - 8
Pain - 5
Exercise - Physical Therapy

Wow it felt really great not to have to wear bandages on the arm last night. I actually slept much better and was surprised to see my weight back in the 230's again. Finally. I slept without getting up and having a 2am snack, too. So that's even more good news!

Monday JUDDD Down Day Menu

JUDDD Down Day (Goal 500cals)
Weight - 242.8lbs (with bandages)
Mood - 8
Pain - 5
Exercise - No

I have great news. I don't have to wear the bandages anymore unless at night. That is...if the swelling stays down. The therapist thinks part of the problem might have been an underlying infection. I've lost a lot of swelling in my arm! I feel very free.

Low Carb Menus Update

JUDDD Up Day 5 Dinner - Grilled Pork Chops & Sausage
with Fried Cabbage and caraway seeds.
The menu posts are on hold right now. I'm sad to say, life is kinda turned every which way right now. My arm is wrapped in the heavy bandage you saw in a previous post, but also, I haven't been feeling good and sleep has been worse than usual. We found a small red spot on my left foob on Wednesday and just watched it. By Thursday at treatment time, I felt really bad and the red area had grown about 4 or 5 times as large. We called the doc and he wanted to see me Friday morning. He wasn't majorly concerned but said he wanted me on two HUGE antibiotics immediately and that I can't miss a dose. I'm to call him if I see any changes.

JUDDD DAY 4 - JUDDD DOWN DAY MENU (DD)

Wednesday - JUDDD - Down Day (Goal 500cals)
Weight - 239.2
Mood - 7
Pain - 6
Exercise - Lymphedema Therapy

Didn't make my down day goal yesterday. I'm finding it tough to find the right eating schedule and when I do eat, I'm so starving it's difficult to make my mind comply with limits. I'm feeling irritated that in addition to this unwieldy bandage on my arm that makes everything slower and harder, it's

JUDDD DAY 3 - JUDDD UP DAY MENU

Tuesday - JUDDD - Up Day (Goal 1400-1600cals)
Weight - 238.4
Mood - 5
Pain - 6
Exercise - Lymphedema Therapy + Physical Therapy

I'm back dawn a pound after a bad down day where I ate over my caloric goal. I also have about 2 lbs of bandages, so I bet I am maybe less than what the scale said this morning. It will be pretty interesting to see how I'm going to be able to work with essentially one hand! Caps are so hard one handed. And so are my preciouses (the exclamation points!!!!!).

JUDDD _ D2 Down Day JUDDD Menus

Monday - JUDDD - Down Day (Goal 500cals)
Weight - 239.4
Mood - 8
Pain - 5
Exercise - Lymphedema Therapy

This is only D1 Bandages.
I'm told they will get bigger...
I will be brief in the coming days as I'm typing one handed. I have to keep my hand and arm bound to try to get rid of the lymphedema in my left arm.

Restart JUDDD with Atkins - Nutritional Ketosis (NK) Eating

Sunday - JUDDD - Medium Day (Goal 1000cals)
Weight - 238.4
Mood - 8
Pain - 5
Exercise - House Cleaning

Well folks what an amazing journey the last three days provided. I ate mostly potatoes, apple cider vinegar, kosher salt and potassium salt for the last three days - pretty much ad libatum (as desired) and to satiety. Very interesting results. I say mostly because I had a 2am cheat on the second day of jack cheese, hard salami and pork loin and I added a tiny bit of jack cheese, pork loin and tomato to last night's dinner (about 1/2 oz of cheese and pork and 1 small slice tomato).

Doing Something Out There...

Weight - 239.0
Mood - 8
Pain - 5
Exercise - House Cleaning

On Day 11 I determined that something was not working for me. I've tried to eat original Atkins (65-75%) fat on average, while keeping carbs at 20g net and eating protein to adequacy. (I actually keep my protein between a range of 60-80g when eating "normal lc".)

What I saw happening is actually fairly representative of what I've seen in the past. This time I averaged about 65-80% fat. And I gained weight. I didn't feel bad. Other than feeling increasingly uncomfortable from the fluid retention. I didn't have any earth shattering cravings or anything.

Atkins Induction Meal Plan - Day 10

Weight - 244.8lbs
Mood - 6
Pain - 8
Exercise - Going to pysical therapy

I'm refusing to sweat this weight thing or lack of it. It is not an indictment of Induction or Nutritional Ketosis. It is a fact of post-surgical inflammation and metabolic interruption. I'm going to believe that and just go with it. Seriously.

Atkins Induction Meal Plan - Day 9

Weight - 242.0lbs
Mood - 8
Pain - 7
Exercise - No, but I MUST get motivated and do it.

Well, I overate protein yesterday. I had 95g of Protein and for me, that is way too much. I make it into glucose, wayyyyy too easily. And voila, this morning I was up on the scale. I envy those of you who can enjoy a bunch of meat and cheese and still lose.

Atkins Induction Menu Plan - Day 8

Weight - 240.0lbs
Mood - 8
Pain - 6
Exercise - No, but I MUST get motivated and do it.

Well, I'm happy to report the plumbing is ALMOST finished, which is a big relief. I've figured out that I just don't enjoy having strangers in our house! And I certainly don't like the upheaval. Since the cancer, my brain gets very over-stimulated and doesn't process things well when faced with harried chaos. I used to be able to handle things much better.

Atkins Induction Menu Plan - Day 7

Weight - 241.4lbs
Mood - 7
Pain - 7
Exercise - Moved more kitchen stuff out of more cabinets! Oy veh!

Very weird to have lost the beginning of this post. Can't remember what I said, but I think I mentioned that it was so easy to stay on plan with my eating, despite having to eat out so much over the last 3 days. Even crummy fast food. But I can say, I was completely happy to have a home cooked meal for a change - even if it did happen at 9:30pm!

Atkins Induction Menu Plan Day 6

Weight - 242.0
Mood - 8
Pain - 6
Exercise - Yes, if you call unloading cabinets in the kitchen exercise.

My mood is quite a bit better this morning. Funny how cathartic poison pen letters are, even when you don't send them! It also helped that I made myself make a delicious dinner for Denny and our sock monkey boys last night and then actually got about 5 hours of sleep for a change. Sleep is a game changer. I look forward to the day when the pain from the incisions relaxes enough to allow me to sleep better. I was approaching that point when I went into the second surgery - it had taken months to get to that point.

Atkins Induction Menu Plan Day 5

Weight - 244.6lbs
Mood - 4 (In the crappah!)
Pain - 7
Exercise - Yes, if you call unloading cabinets in the kitchen and under every counter in the bathroom and bar area as well as moving the bed and bedroom furniture and covering it in a tarp so the work men can replumb the entire house due to the second mondo water leak we had Thanksgiving weekend.

Dear Carl's, Jr.

I hate you. This is a poison pen letter to let you know there should be truth in advertising. Do not SHOW me a picture of what your burger is INTENDED to look like. We know you airbrush your centerfolds! Do not TELL me, I'm going to have a great meal, prepared fresh, the way I want it, when CLEARLY the burgers we ate last night sat under a heat lamp for God knows how long before you delivered them.

Atkins Induction Menu Plan Day 4

Weight - 243.6lbs
Mood - 7
Pain - 5
Exercise - No

Slowly we creep. Tenth of pound by tenth of pound...Can you feel my fingernails screeching on the chalkboard? LOL.

Yeah this is the weight loss equivalent of watching grass grow...with reasonably scentilating food porn thrown in for grins and giggles.

I hope all two of you reading here with me are finding some things of interest.

Let's talk NK (Nutritional Ketosis) or as I like to say, let's talk Atkins - fleshed out. Cuz in my estimation that's basically what Nutritional Ketosis actually represents, it's an expansion of the Atkins with a revised, updated approach that helps simplify things. What do I mean by simplify?

Atkins Induction Menu Plan - Day 3

Weight - 243.8lbs
Mood - 5
Pain - 7
Exercise - No

I feel like Tatoo from Fantasy Island. "The "pain" boss, the "pain".

Ok that's probably not what he meant...but it kinda sounds like that if you squint real hard. No drugs last night and the scale gave me a very tiny hat tip. Bast**d. It shoulda been bigger.

Perfect day of eating yesterday. It's the usual drill...no hunger during the day, then at night, after a beautiful and filling meal, my tummy knocks on my brain's door and says, "Scuse me suh, may I have s'more, please?"

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Atkins Induction Menu Plan - Day 2

Weight - 244.8lbs
Mood - 5
Pain - 4
Exercise - ? (prolly will try)

The good news is my pain is at a manageable 4 right now. The bad news is that after enduring it all day and into the night, I broke down and took a Narco 10/325 to control it. I love this drug. It works on the pain quickly and knocks it back to a level I can have quality of life.

But. And there is a VERY big but attached to it...

Atkins Induction Menu Plan - Day 1

2 WEEK INDUCTION CHALLENGE

2 Weeks - How many pounds?

For any who are checking in on menus, I had a very extensive surgery about 11 weeks ago, called a Bilateral Latissimus Dorsi Flap Reconstruction with placement of Bilateral Tissue Expanders. This involved 4 large incisions: 2 on my back, extending the width of my back and 2 large tissue donations from those back incisions onto my breasts (they are oval or football shaped flaps that compose the majority of both breasts now.

Notes: Still a tough day for me emotionally. I feel very overwhelmed with the decision and with all that's happened over the last year. Still dealing with the grief and stress of having a late stage breast cancer. It's changed and defined me so much and I swore I would never be that girl - defined by a disease. :( Have to just work on my emotional state.

Wanted and craved a martini so badly. I just wanted to have a normal dinner with drinks without having to weigh every decision I make based on is it good for my body and will it increase the chance of the cancer coming back? I just feel so over-vigilant sometimes I want to scream. Then I have to just shake myself and tell myself to get real. I'm cancer free today as far as we know, so how dare I wine about my "lot". I could be like so many of my friends and be dealing with a recurrence today and Stage IV disease.

I totally made a bone headed dinner choice. I keep a meat free, fasting Friday as part of my religious beliefs. And I ate pork rinds! *snort*. In my mind, I wasn't eating red blooded "meat". So it was fine. Then I sat down and was half way through the pork rind nachos and said, "Oh crap! What have I done!?) LOL. Oh well, I'm pretty sure God didn't lose any sleep over it. But I still felt bad about it.

I'm starting an n=1 pseudo-experiment today. It's based on experiments with Calorie Restriction and Food Restriction or Food Windows. I'm working with some guidance on this. The idea will be to reset my Circadian Rhythms.

New research shows that Circadian Rhythm disruption influences inflammation and obesity as well as insulin sensitivity. These are all areas I'm desperate to address because fixing these areas could allow my body to heal. This could give me a better shot at remaining cancer free.

For the next 3 weeks, I must reset the Circadian Clock inside my body. To reset the CC (Circadian Clock) I need to discontinue JUDDD over the next 3 weeks and simply adhere to a feeding, sleeping and waking schedule.

I will be adding a note section at the end of each day in order to evaluate status and moods.

Step 1: Eat a low carb diet without calorie restriction for the next 3 weeks without any type of calorie rotation.

Step 2: Eat all meals within an 8 hour feeding window - 11am - 7pm. Absolutely no eating after 7pm. Non-caloric liquids are allowed on demand.

Step 3: Adhere to a bedtime with total darkness at 11pm and wake time of 6:30am, every day.

Step 4: After 3 weeks I will resume JUDDD Rotations with a 20% Calorie Restriction on Down Days - 500 kcals, Up Days will allow up to 2340 kcals. The JUDDD Rotation will feature low carb nutrition. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

Step 5: After 2 weeks back on JUDDD Rotations, evaluate the ongoing weight loss level I feel comfortable in sustaining for the long term. I can go as high as a 50% restriction and still experience activation of the SIRT1 genes and asthma alleviation. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

JUDDD Plan -

What in the Sam-hill, cockamamie food plan are you following? That can't be low carb!! Well, you're right it isn't simply low carb. I follow a derivation of the Johnson's Alternate Day Diet. I tweaked the JUDDD diet, as it's called, into a low carb version.

I choose to follow this plan right now, because I am experiencing dramatic improvement on asthma symptoms, blood sugar control and weight loss.

More importantly, I also experienced a greater than 50% response rate in neo-adjuvant chemotherapy towards a high grade prolific ER+/PR+/Her2Neu- breast cancer and lost 45lbs during treatment - when most people in breast cancer treatment gain 10-20lbs. (KI-67 was 22% with 17mitotic bodies).

Sure, I'm a turtle. Weight loss is slow weight loss. But it's weight loss! Hope that helps bring you up to speed!

The JUDDD diet has quite a bit of testing behind it and is founded upon theories that alternate day caloric restriction activates the longevity gene, the SIRT1 gene.

Suggested side effects of the JUDDD Diet are greater blood sugar control, reduction of systemic inflammation, relief or improvement of asthma conditions, reduction in movement disorder brain dysfunction, and possible anti-cancer effects.

But! Key to remember, I'm an n=1, not a doctor, not a nutritionist, nor allied health practitioner and you MUST do your own research. I'm just a girl who had cancer and is dancing with NED at this point in time.
