Notes - The doctor's visits went ok yesterday. Port flush went off without a hitch and they did my routine lab work (CBC with differential & complete Metabollic Panel). All the tests show improvement or stable readings when compared to the previous tests. So that's good to know.

I told the doc about my pains under my jaw and had to explain about my HbA1c tests. He maintained I didn't have diabetes or even pre-diabetes until I told him about the 5hour Glucose Tolerance Test a few years ago and told him about my first A1c test last year when I was "off the wagon", eating my Make-A-Wish-Diet (the one I ate right after diagnosis where I ate every bag of delicious crap possible and wished it wasn't gonna end up on my watoosie...).

The reality is that SOMETIMES, I did overeat bad food. But most of that time, I ate a "normal" SAD (Standard American Diet) with carbs, veg, and meat. Basically like I do now except I'd have a serving of the high carbage stuff and a few favorite processed foods (Ahem, Stouffer's Mac n Cheese.). My A1c after only 8 weeks of eating that way and 45lbs weight gain later was 6.7 or 6.9 (can't remember exactly), and he said, "Oh, well you were actually in the diabetic range."

And I said, "Yep, so please know that seeing those 5.3 and 5.6 numbers for the last 2 tests show that I'm following a very strict food plan and controlling my A1c through carbohydrate regulation and restriction."

And he said, "Yes, AND the 50lb weight loss, because often that amount of weight loss will also decrease your A1c."

To which I replied, "Yep, and all you need to do to throw that theory in the trash is to feed me high glycemic foods for 3-4 days, then start monitoring my post-prandial blood sugars. You will see that my diabetes, pre-diabetes, or reactive blood sugars brilliantly monitor the diabetic level spikes after a mixed meal of high carb nature."

And at that point he said, "Well, let's just give you another A1c to check you out."

And I said, "Sure, go ahead. It will only reconfirm the 5.3-5.6 I have had for the last 9 months, since I'm controlling my carbs and also doing alternate day calorie restrictions. In other words, I'm doing what the ADA wants me to do and controlling my T2 through lifestyle changes."

To which he said, "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz."

Don't get me wrong. I think this is a very smart doctor. But he and I disagree about controlled carb nutrition. And I flat refused to get into a discussion with him yestersay when he started with the "balanced diet nonsense and rhetoric". He's a young guy. He should know better. Not enough time in my world to have that conversation. I learned from my granny long ago, "Never argue with crazy."

He does want me to have a stress test along with the EKG and chest xray from my pre-op orders. It's an exercise stress test. Never had one and I'm skeered spitless! I will just have to not think about it till tomorrow - aka Scarlett O'Hara. I'll tackle that registration early next week. Better to know for sure than face a 6 hour surgery with the unknown. We both think the pain is coming from skeletal or muscular origin though.

Yesterday we had dinner with our family (niece, neph-in-law and great-niece). Love them to pieces, they are so darling!! It was a DD, but I just figured I would eat sensibly and get through it without drama or angst if my cals were over. They had limited fish choices and all the vegetarian choices were very carbacious in nature (falafel burgers, veggie burgers, etc.). The place itself is very cute and they specialize in serving organic, healthy meals. Score!

But I came home last night and just started feeling unwell. My tummy started kicking up problems and so did some asthma. So I ended up the night in the little girls room and also taking a nebulizer treatment. Didn't end up being able to fall asleep until sometime after 1am. Then I slept fairly soundly until about 6:30am this morning. I kinda lolled in the recliner and got up at 7am.

My weight is down, but how much is real weight loss and how much is simply water loss from the "tummy troubles" is anyone's guess. Even though the 223lb reading means I've now lost 91lbs. I won't announce it officially until I see if the weight sticks. Unofficially, I've actually lost closer to about 97lbs. But I'm only gonna use official weight here! You can't hate on that! :D

Quit JUDDD and low carb to prepare for surgery.

Resumed JUDDD schedule while continuing with the Circadian Rhythm Schedule for eating and sleeping windows.

July 23 - August 12 -

I'm starting an n=1 pseudo-experiment today. It's based on experiments with Calorie Restriction and Food Restriction or Food Windows. I'm working with some guidance on this. The idea will be to reset my Circadian Rhythms.New research shows that Circadian Rhythm disruption influences inflammation and obesity as well as insulin sensitivity. These are all areas I'm desperate to address because fixing these areas could allow my body to heal. This could give me a better shot at remaining cancer free.

For the next 3 weeks, I must reset the Circadian Clock inside my body. To reset the CC (Circadian Clock) I need to discontinue JUDDD over the next 3 weeks and simply adhere to a feeding, sleeping and waking schedule. I will be adding a note section at the end of each day in order to evaluate status and moods.

Step 1: Eat a low carb diet without calorie restriction for the next 3 weeks without any type of calorie rotation.

Step 2: Eat all meals within an 8 hour feeding window - 11am - 7pm. Absolutely no eating after 7pm. Non-caloric liquids are allowed on demand.

Step 3: Adhere to a bedtime with total darkness at 11pm and wake time of 6:30am, every day.

Step 4: After 3 weeks I will resume JUDDD Rotations with a 20% Calorie Restriction on Down Days - 500 kcals, Up Days will allow up to 2340 kcals. The JUDDD Rotation will feature low carb nutrition. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

Step 5: After 2 weeks back on JUDDD Rotations, evaluate the ongoing weight loss level I feel comfortable in sustaining for the long term. I can go as high as a 50% restriction and still experience activation of the SIRT1 genes and asthma alleviation. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

JUDDD Plan -

What in the Sam-hill, cockamamie food plan are you following? That can't be low carb!! Well, you're right it isn't simply low carb. I follow a derivation of the Johnson's Alternate Day Diet. I tweaked the JUDDD diet, as it's called, into a low carb version.

I choose to follow this plan right now, because I am experiencing dramatic improvement on asthma symptoms, blood sugar control and weight loss.

More importantly, I also experienced a greater than 50% response rate in neo-adjuvant chemotherapy towards a high grade prolific ER+/PR+/Her2Neu- breast cancer and lost 45lbs during treatment - when most people in breast cancer treatment gain 10-20lbs. (KI-67 was 22% with 17mitotic bodies).

Sure, I'm a turtle. Weight loss is slow weight loss. But it's weight loss! Hope that helps bring you up to speed!

The JUDDD diet has quite a bit of testing behind it and is founded upon theories that alternate day caloric restriction activates the longevity gene, the SIRT1 gene.

Suggested side effects of the JUDDD Diet are greater blood sugar control, reduction of systemic inflammation, relief or improvement of asthma conditions, reduction in movement disorder brain dysfunction, and possible anti-cancer effects.

But! Key to remember, I'm an n=1, not a doctor, not a nutritionist, nor allied health practitioner and you MUST do your own research. I'm just a girl who had cancer and is dancing with NED at this point in time.
