Notes - I did have a small weight bounce this morning. Last night I weighed and was truly, evilly - in a horrid, no good, very bad mood! LOL. I weighed in last night before bed at 226.4lbs! Usually, I weigh between 1-2lbs of my morning weight. It's kinda an exercise in obsession with me to see how my day of eating went. It will tell me things like whether my carb level was too high or if I had too much sodium or even if my cortisol level is kicking my asp. I suspected the latter was at work last night. I knew I hadn't taken in many carbs, or much sodium, and had quite a bit of fat in the chicken drippings I added to the soup.

I felt that weird cortisol adrenalin thing I feel sometimes when I'm too deep in ketosis. I expected to wake with a big scale bounce back up to 224 or higher. So I was pleasantly surprised I was only 223.4lb pre-poopy (pp). LOL. Yeah, it's Susie's Poopy Report. Don't you feel special? You KNEW one day it would come to this, right? Well, you shoulda!

Woke a few times last night from pain. Don't feel rested at all this morning and mood is not actually in the "terlet" this morning, but I can feel it's greatly effected by the sleepless night and pain level. I've been resistant to supplementing with fish oil and multi-vitamins or OTC things like MSM or the chondroitin stuff just in case they interfere with the performance of my aromatase inhibitor (Femara). Also, there are so many bad supplement products out there made with lab engineered vitamins and minerals, it's hard to know where the good ones can be found that actually help you instead of hurting you. (Hello! Can you say artificial Vits A & E & D2?)

I can't start fish oil now anyway because of the looming surgery, so would have to wait until after surgery for that to happen anyway. Fish oil can thin the blood and act like a weak blood thinner. So the surgeon makes you stop all of that including any aspirin or aspirin-like substance before surgery.

But I've been thinking especially about getting a multi-vitamin that is made from whole foods. The problem with things like the "Big Green Powder" and stuff, is there are sprouted grasses in there that I'm pretty sure I'm allergic or sensitive to and many of them also have flax, which I can't have either. So it's a bit more complicated and I just have to look around. I also can't afford to pay a buttload a month for supplements, either!

I read an interesting study yesterday that just came out regarding ketosis and cancer progression in end-stage patients. Dr. Eugene Fine who does outstanding work in the field of nutrition and metabolism - especially with regards to controlled carb nutrition was one of the researchers. Gary Taubes reported on it.

I've always kept my carbs higher and my fats a bit lower because I don't feel as good when I go VLCK (very low carb ketogenic). So I tend to keep the carbs at anywhere from around 15-20g net per day to as high some days as 60g net. I like to have them fluctuate most days to keep my body guessing! But I also suspect that has a lot to do with my weight bounces!

In this study, the diet was extremely ketotic with carbohydrate contributing 5% of daily values. Very low! It would be very doable if you are ingesting 1600 - 1800 calories a day like many Atkins dieters are doing. But when you are only taking in 500 cals on DDs and 1400 cals on UDs then you have 6.25g Carbs and 17.5g Carbs respectively. The 17.5g Carbs on UDs is doable - not fun, but doable. The 6.25g Carbs on DDs is a bit more tricky!

I might think about doing something like this for grins and giggles but the abstract also talks about one of the test criteria is that the subject's cancer must not have been previously exposed to ketogenic diets. I can't back this up because I can't remember where I read the study, but I want to recall somewhere that cancer has the ability to adapt to a ketogenic state and in that adaptation becomes more aggressive? I mentioned that to the Wizard and he scoffed at it. So I'm gonna pretend I believe him!

Resumed JUDDD schedule while continuing with the Circadian Rhythm Schedule for eating and sleeping windows.

July 23 - August 12 -

I'm starting an n=1 pseudo-experiment today. It's based on experiments with Calorie Restriction and Food Restriction or Food Windows. I'm working with some guidance on this. The idea will be to reset my Circadian Rhythms.New research shows that Circadian Rhythm disruption influences inflammation and obesity as well as insulin sensitivity. These are all areas I'm desperate to address because fixing these areas could allow my body to heal. This could give me a better shot at remaining cancer free.

For the next 3 weeks, I must reset the Circadian Clock inside my body. To reset the CC (Circadian Clock) I need to discontinue JUDDD over the next 3 weeks and simply adhere to a feeding, sleeping and waking schedule. I will be adding a note section at the end of each day in order to evaluate status and moods.

Step 1: Eat a low carb diet without calorie restriction for the next 3 weeks without any type of calorie rotation.

Step 2: Eat all meals within an 8 hour feeding window - 11am - 7pm. Absolutely no eating after 7pm. Non-caloric liquids are allowed on demand.

Step 3: Adhere to a bedtime with total darkness at 11pm and wake time of 6:30am, every day.

Step 4: After 3 weeks I will resume JUDDD Rotations with a 20% Calorie Restriction on Down Days - 500 kcals, Up Days will allow up to 2340 kcals. The JUDDD Rotation will feature low carb nutrition. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

Step 5: After 2 weeks back on JUDDD Rotations, evaluate the ongoing weight loss level I feel comfortable in sustaining for the long term. I can go as high as a 50% restriction and still experience activation of the SIRT1 genes and asthma alleviation. Continue to follow the FR (Food Restriction eating window, bedtime, and waking time.)

JUDDD Plan -

What in the Sam-hill, cockamamie food plan are you following? That can't be low carb!! Well, you're right it isn't simply low carb. I follow a derivation of the Johnson's Alternate Day Diet. I tweaked the JUDDD diet, as it's called, into a low carb version.

I choose to follow this plan right now, because I am experiencing dramatic improvement on asthma symptoms, blood sugar control and weight loss.

More importantly, I also experienced a greater than 50% response rate in neo-adjuvant chemotherapy towards a high grade prolific ER+/PR+/Her2Neu- breast cancer and lost 45lbs during treatment - when most people in breast cancer treatment gain 10-20lbs. (KI-67 was 22% with 17mitotic bodies).

Sure, I'm a turtle. Weight loss is slow weight loss. But it's weight loss! Hope that helps bring you up to speed!

The JUDDD diet has quite a bit of testing behind it and is founded upon theories that alternate day caloric restriction activates the longevity gene, the SIRT1 gene.

Suggested side effects of the JUDDD Diet are greater blood sugar control, reduction of systemic inflammation, relief or improvement of asthma conditions, reduction in movement disorder brain dysfunction, and possible anti-cancer effects.

But! Key to remember, I'm an n=1, not a doctor, not a nutritionist, nor allied health practitioner and you MUST do your own research. I'm just a girl who had cancer and is dancing with NED at this point in time.
